United Methodist in from Wichita

At the end of June we were blessed to have another mission group travel to Wolf Point in efforts to support Tikkun Olam’s mission of ‘repairing the world’ on the Fort Peck Reservation. A team from First United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas and United Methodist Church in Augusta, Kansas joined together to work on our houses. From cleaning out the air vents to re caulking windows to dry walling bathrooms, these two groups worked with joy and diligence. The group comprised of 9 women and one man all with extensive experience with missions work. This veteran crew jumped right into the mix of things and were chipping away at our project list in no time!

Furthermore, the week was filled with delicious home-cooked meals made by grandmother-granddaughter duo and other members of the group to sustain the team that was hard at it from morning till night. Every night they would get together for a devotional and several nights members of Tikkun Olam were able to jump in as well. Together they prayed for the people on the Reservation and avowed their hopes for the kids in the community. The week ended with the group attending the Fifth Annual Creator Games on the Buffalo Ranch in Montana, where are three interns had spent the week being counselors. The group was able to take part in the many native activities available with kids as well as mingle with the staff. They also got to watch and learn a traditional dance from a group of Aztec dancers from Mexico.

We are so grateful for this group and their willingness to spread God’s word through their work. The trip home allowed them to visit the many great roadside attractions and although it was a long 2 days of travel we know everyone was feeling refilled and refreshed by serving the Lord.
