The Magic Valley Bible Church Rolls onto the Rez, Things Start Happening
This past week Tikkun Olam hosted a team of 12 Christian craftsmen/women who traveled from Twin Falls, Idaho to Wolf Point and worked tirelessly over 5 days to get us moving on our summer projects.. Pastor Greg ‘Bear’ Morton from the Magic Valley Bible Church of Twin Falls and his team which included his family, Cheri, Stephanie, Jordan, Madison and Riley Morton along with Carl, Diana and Sadie Sweet, Loran Schmidt, Michael Helsley, and Aaron Poortvilet all traveled over 12 hours to make this trip happen. With both of our teacher’s houses being built nearly 70 years ago there were some definite needs for improvement. This dynamic group tackled the following projects and really showed the community Christ’s love and dedication to his people!
· Installed egress window in the Cascade house basement
· Installed egress window in the Dawson house basement
· Restored, painted and re-shingled the Head Start Building’s outdoor shed
· Built a new large utility shed for the Head Start School
· Painted outside of the Head Start building
· Installed a new shower at the Dawson house
· Installed shower and tub unit at Cascade house
· Install a new 50 gallon water heater at Cascade house
· Painted walls and cleaned rooms
· Landscape work
Anyone with a background in the construction would look at this list and wonder how in the world 12 people over 5 days accomplished this much! These warriors worked from sun up to sun down and would not leave until all of these projects were ready to hand over. The staff of the Head Start School were just blown away by all their generosity and are so thankful for all this church did.
We were all impressed with their labors as well as their positive attitudes and servant’s hearts. The Magic Valley Church is home to the grandparents of Scott Montgomery who is the 3rd Grade teacher in Wolf Point and they are committed to supporting him and his efforts to help kids on the Rez. While on the Rez, the group got to attend a Pow-Wow with the Red Bottom Clan of the Assiniboine Tribe. Pow-Wows are a great way to see a bit of the tribal culture and heritage, where drum music moves dancers of all ages to dance over a period of 3 days.
We are forever grateful for all that the Magic Valley Church, Pastor Bear and what his warriors have done for us this summer. We look forward to seeing them in the future! What a blessing this church and its people have been to Tikkun Olam and the people of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation! A true vision of what the body of Christ, His church, looks like.
